My children are excited we are going to a friends house on Saturday for a little bit of trick or treating.  Im not a full fledged celebrator of Halloween but did enjoy going trick or treating when I was an exchange student ... years ago.. in the USA . Last year we were living in a gated complex so it was nice a safe to take the children around.  This year we are in a new neighbourhood so we've decided a dress up party is the safest option.  Im thinking about making some more of these...halloween 011

and thesehalloween 017 The oranges were a bit fiddly to make but I really did like the finished effect - and the icecream tasted like oranges - Yum!

I cant remember where I got the ideas from originally but it looks like I will be getting stuck in and making them again this year :)

have done a bit of sewing today and yesterday, but I'll save that for another day :)

A day of crafting

Ahhh... isn't it amazing how a day of indulging in your love of craft can lift your mood and change your outlook on life.

Today I have spent pottering in my craft room.. working on the baby quilt I am making and some Christmas stockings.  I have also made Ben this, after promising him something when the girls were getting skirts:

(excuse the crappy photo, its finally started raining here... cant remember the last time - maybe June!)

He has named it Google and is very excited about taking it to bed tonight.  It is Mel Goodsell's pattern of 'Zet the monster' from the Australian Homesewn Magazine (not sure how to link to the magazine so here's the link to Mel Goodsell's super crafty blog ). The magazine is full of amazing patterns and ideas - very glad I got a copy of it!

Stocking creators will be here in a few minutes, will tell you about a swap I am joining tomorrow.

Some sewing

I have been wanting to include the picture of this apron I made for a good friend of mine. She is also a kiwi and she designed the apron, I made it for her as a thank you for coming up with the name for my blog :)

This weekend was destined to be very busy and then I ended up with a tummy bug yesterday... so just rested and felt sorry for myself. Missed a friends birthday party and had to postpone family photos for today.

But back to normal today and have spent the morning sewing!!

Have made the front of a quilt for my cousin's baby that is due in the next couple of weeks. Hopefully I will get around to finishing it before she makes her appearance :) here's a peek...

Have also half-made the fronts of two Christmas stockings.

I now have to get cracking on all my other projects as Christmas is not too far away!!

The other thing I want to do is figure out how to get people over here to visit my blog.  Not much point in writing it for nothing! :) Any ideas, anyone reading :) please let me know.

No sewing in these parts!

Its been a busy week with my hubby at home (still nowhere for them to work) and there has been no sewing or crafting in this house.
On the other hand I have enjoyed doing a bit of christmas shopping, visiting Mt Coot-tha and having friends over... lots of catching up with friends this week - which is all good :) My ladies doing Christmas stockings are under way and its exciting to see all the different ideas. Hopefully I will have some too soon!!!

One more skirt

I have finally got time to upload my photos of my final skirt for the sew-a-long.  I loved this watermelon fabric when I first bought it and now Im pleased I can see it often when my daughter wears her skirt. She wasnt being very cooperative with the photos!

We have had a fun filled weekend with fishing, visiting the library and today we took the train to Brisbane and went to South Bank.  The kids had a swim and play at the park. It was a teachers only day and as a bonus my husband was off work due to the 'fire' on Friday.

On that note, the good news is their jobs are safe and he gets a couple of days off while they sort out where they are going to work and get new computers.  Also, a lot of the stock was undamaged by the fire and it looks like most of the damage was in the office and the roof. My hubby is just annoyed he left his watch on his desk so has been asking all weekend what the time is!!!

I am also a bit worried that I am a little bit overtired at the moment. I spent 5 minutes hunting for my pjs last night and then finally realised I was already wearing them... when did I put them on? who knows?

Freaking out on Friday

Today has been a very strange day. My hubby was sending me an email from work and he typed, gotta go, there's a fire, for real.  I waited for a bit and then rang him and he said he was standing outside watching 5 fire engines try to douse the fire that was burning down his workplace.  We live about 20km away and I could see the smoke from our back yard. The fire has been on the news and apparently the building is destroyed, $5 million worth.

On the sewing front, I have been to Spotlight four times in the past week. Three times were helping my friends with choosing fabrics for their stockings and once for skirt fabric for the sew-a-long.  I wish there were more options in our area for fabric shopping.  I might have to start doing some online fabric shopping. hehe! My hubby would lOVE that!

well, after todays events I have no sewing to show... maybe tomorrow I will get motivated :)

The stockings were hung by the chimney with care

About 5 years ago a lovely friend of mine showed  me the beautiful heirloom christmas stockings she had made for her children.  I made my first two that year.

The following Christmas we ran classes with mums from our playgroup and we had the most amazing time together making beautiful gifts for our children and friendships too.

Every year since I have 'guided' my friends through the process and every year it has been such a special lead up to Christmas, with some amazing and beautiful stockings being made.

This year, once again,  I have a lovely group of women making stockings.  It is so much fun.  I thought I would share a few of my creations here, before I get stuck into sewing a few more (including one for me this year :)).

My son is a bit disappointed there isnt anything for him but wasnt to keen when I suggested making him a skirt  LOL!!! Of course I have promised next week will be sewing for him
