Loving: Leaving on a Jet plane

Our family is very excited to be counting down to a big five week trip to the USA.

When I was at high school I was an exchange student to Harvard, Illinois for twelve months. The.best.experience.ever.

I was so fortunate to have an amazing host family who welcomed me into their family and in the 20+ years since, we are still really close. I consider them part of my family.

Seven years ago my hubby and I went to visit them and had a fantastic 3 weeks (sans children). I was pregnant with our youngest at the time. It was lovely for my host family to meet him (and vice versa).

About an hour after we arrived to visit my host parents, in Nebraska, my host Dad commented on how it felt like it was just yesterday I had left. I wholeheartedly agreed!

Our trip this time will be a massive one for us. First 'family' holiday in a very long time. The planning has been intense (and continues).

I can't wait to share with our children the amazing people who were my family for a year as a teenager, and for them to see parts of the country I love.

We are heading to LA first to do the tourist thing. Then Anaheim and San Diego. (read: Hollywood, Disneyland, Legoland).

My host parents and two of my host brothers/sisters now live in Tuscon so we'll be spend three weeks with them and squeezing in a trip to the Grand Canyon.

I LOVE that an amazing experience in my young life has also provided me an ongoing relationship with an amazing family and I am SO thankful we are able to make this trip.

I will be sure to bore you senseless with photo's and our travels when the time comes!!!

My creative space: A spring tunic

We moved house last weekend and I still need to finish unpacking, but.. I am feeling so at home in the new place and so inspired to DO things (the new place is awesome!).

This morning I finally sat down and finished and hemmed this tunic for my 6 year old.
It's very bright and loud and she loves it!

Spring has well and truly sprung here (more like summer if you ask me!) so its time to break out the summer clothes.

and one more, because the new, much loved Pillow Pet needed a photo too

(I just love this little string bean of mine...that dimple gets me everytime, she's the sweetest kid you'll ever meet)

I'm thinking now I might make one in vintage fabrics....

My Creative space: O Christmas Tree

I've made a headstart on Christmas gifts for this year.

Using my tutorial, you can find here, I am making Yo Yo Trees as gifts for the teachers at school, family, etc.

A friend and I are making up little kit-sets for the kids to make them in the holidays for their friends (mini trees!).

I am also packing and cleaning to move house tomorrow (groan!)...and school holidays start tomorrow (yippee!).

My creative space: Travel journal

Wow, it's been a while since I joined in at My Creative Space!

I have been collecting and preparing to make travel journals for our children (we are going on a big overseas trip soon, but more about that in another post *much excitement*).

I also knew of another little blogger who is off on a special trip with her Mum to visit their very special friends so I thought I would make her a little journal to take and record her journey.

Here are a few of the inside pages....

a little room for journalling
Room to add photos and memorabilia, maps etc..
I hand stitched the pages together through the middle
I really enjoyed making this little album and received a lovely email from the recipient saying thank you.

My favourite part of the journal is this sticker...
"Some journey cannot be put into words"

September Sort It: Starting to cross off my list

One quilt, pinned and ready to be quilted. A huge achievement considering this quilt top has been sitting in a suitcase for over two years!

The best part is I am STILL in love with the fabrics on this quilt!!

Joining in with Tamar's September Sort it!
