The girl with the golden hair

Our youngest is 7 years old today!

How did that happen? It seems like a split second ago she was this teeny little baby

Since starting school two years ago our young Miss has blossomed and grown. She is an avid reader and has the most beautiful handwriting. Her teacher this year adored her, for her quiet confidence and impeccable manners.

When she finished school for the year on Tuesday my mother's heart was touched when everyone in the class wanted to hug her and wish her well for her big holiday. They prayed a blessing over her and sent her safely on her way.

From the moment I held her in my arms I was besotted with this little one...and seven years later, I still am.

Happy Birthday Sweet Girl

My Creative Space

I have been a busy little bee the last few weeks. A little bit of extra thyroxine will do that to you!

This morning we are heading off on our BIG TRIP! whoop!

So I've scheduled a few posts for while we are away.

One morning I was wide awake at 5.00 am so I whipped up this little apron.

I recently found a lot of beautiful vintage linens at our local oppy and had seen a similar idea in Mollie Makes.

It came together so quickly and is beautiful and soft.

It was hard to part with, but I have sent it to a new home, to bless a lady who I see doing so much for other people.

Advent swap Day 25!

The final parcel in my huge box from the lovely Cat.

Day 25 in the Avent Swap is the main present.

From Cat I was gifted a beautiful crocheted cushion

It's the perfect colours for my half finished quilt, so it will be taking pride of place on our bed!

The kids received gifts too (which I hadn't told them about!)...

A reversible bag kit (which she wants to make NOW! lol) and choccy's.

My little artist boy got his favourite thing, an art pad and coloured pencils (and choccy's too!)

A french knitting kit and choccy's! She can't wait to try it out.

I also took some photos of all the beautiful decorations adorning my little Christmas tree. All made by Cat!

Thank you so much Cat for an AMAZING swap. Thank you for your generosity, creativity and thoughtfulness.

Thanksgiving

Excitement is brewing in our house as we count down the sleeps to our big USA adventure next week.

Tonight we are going to have a small 'Thanksgiving' meal. To honour the country we are about to visit, and because I also think it is a really awesome celebration to adopt.

I know its the wrong time of the year for the true spirit of Thanksgiving, but we are concentrating on the THANKS part of it :)
borrowed from here

We feel so blessed and privileged to have this opportunity to take our three children on a holiday, to have precious family time together, but also for our children to meet the wonderful family I lived with as an exchange student when I was 18  years old.

We are a family of very humble means.
This is BIG HUGE MASSIVE for us.

For two years we have lived in limbo, praying and hoping for that elusive job for hubby in NZ, home. All of our 'stuff' was shipped back to NZ two years ago.

Everything we have here is gifted or thrifted. Friends have been very generous and our finds have been awesome. However, we all miss the little things, our treasures, photo albums, all the little touches that are ours.

Two years is a long time to live like this and coupled with my bouts of depression and health problems it is not surprising that a few months ago it all became a bit too much. I was clutching for what our future may hold.

And this is how this holiday has come about. It is our first 'real' family holiday since our 9 year old was born.

All our holidays and savings in the last 5 years have been used to go home to NZ...and as other expats will tell you, its not a holiday. It is chaotic as you feel pulled in different directions. It is LOVELY seeing family and friends but we always come home exhausted.

So as we prepare and count down to this awesome break, I am taking a moment to think about how thankful I am, for this beautiful little family I have and the opportunity to spend some time exploring our big wide world together.

I hope you will follow our journey because I am sure to pop up a few photos on here and instagram... hehe who am I kidding, I'll be putting TONS of photos up!!

My Creative space - crazy!

My creative space is a little crazy this week.

Who signs up for a market stall 12 days before they take a 13 hours flight with three kids and one hubby for five weeks overseas?? throw in the new thyroid meds... its craziness I tell you. But the end is in sight!

I am madly cutting, sewing and stuffing, stitching and a stressing!

I am also working hard to finish the last few things for my Advent swap parcel to the lovely Cat so I can get it sent asap.

So I'm going back to it!!

My faithful helper will keep ....helping?

Christmas Advent Swap -Day one

This year I have joined in with the lovely Cat from Catalina's Cottage for her Christmas Advent Swap.

I was so lucky to be paired with Cat as my swap partner!!!

Because we are heading off on our family adventure before December starts, Cat kindly sent me my swap parcel early and we agreed for me to start opening the parcels early and make my advent in November not December this year.

Yesterday was like CHRISTMAS in our house. Look at the size of that box!!

I got to open parcel 1 and 9 (two a day to catch up to the current date).

Pressie number one

Beautifully wrapped, gorgeous cards!!!

Inside...

A beautiful pendant! My favourite colour too, with gorgeous koru designs on it. So beautiful!

Made by this very clever lady KP Beads
And a fabulous Crochet Dishcloth book. We only use crocheted/knitted dishclothes and they are the best! I can't wait to try some of the patterns.

With 99 designs I feel a challenge coming on in the New Year!
