Reminder to enter giveaways

I'm feeling a bit shattered today and we've had another crazy weekend with a cyclone tearing through the South East of Queensland,

We, again, are so lucky. No damage, no flooding, we even have power (unlike many of my friends). The worst that happened to us is losing phone and internet coverage. They are still working on it. But hey, if that's all we have to worry about, we are very very lucky.

Our kids head back to school tomorrow. All I have to say is ..nine weeks is a LONG time (regardless of amazing, fabulous, awesome holidays).

Just wanted to remind you to enter the giveaway week. All of the them are open to everyone, you don't have to follow me or anything silly. Just comment on the ones you want to win!
All of them close on 31st January.

Day 1 - crobot
Day 2 - crochet dishclothes
Day 3 - crochet cotton and hook
Day 4 - Doll Kit
Day 5 - Toiletries pouch

And what is a post without a picture

here is the beautiful and surprisingly colourful landscape of the Arizona Desert

A dress

After all those posts last week, it seems this week I have run out of words.
All of the giveaways are open until 31 January, so be sure to enter.

On Sunday in a fit of enthusiasm I launched myself into some projects that have been sitting around unfinished for far too long.

I finished this dress for Miss 7 that I started 18 months ago (or more!).

I was inspired by the dress I saw here, (here is the pin but back in the early days of pinning I didn't link it to the actual post!)but searched all over the internet to find a crochet collar pattern to no avail. In the end I just winged it and surprisingly it worked!

Loving and Giveaway week day 5

Loving this week is brought to you by my craft store adventures in the USA.

I am sure the first craft store I visited in the USA I must have had the same wonder and excitement on my face that my kids had at Disneyland. Seriously, I was in awe.

I had a whole three hours to enjoy two of the major craft stores with my eldest daughter.

I spent most of the time just looking, absorbing, discovering things we don't have here.

My lovely host sister had saved me coupons so I was really excited to get 50% off some items.

I purchased this lovely book (amongst many other things)
which wound up under the Christmas tree for me.

I have dabbled in machine embroidery in the past... making an apron for a swap in 2010.
But I really wanted to work on my technique.

So this week I started practising from the book. Using their templates I made a toilet bag and it is the giveaway for day 5 - you could win it!!

(would you believe I photographed it on a white wall! not pink! - pegs are not included lol)
I still need to work on my technique, but love this 'drawing' with my sewing machine.
It is lined with this pretty waterproof fabric

To enter leave a comment below and it will be drawn 31 January 2013.

If you haven't already you can still enter for giveaway days one, two, three and four!

On stepping back and encouraging creativity & giveaway week day 4

I am learning to step back and let my eldest daughter create.
Without my input.
Without my direction.
Without my unwanted 'wisdom' (ha!).

My beautiful 11.5 year old loves to create. Since her kindy days we have been inundated with paintings, drawings, knitted, sewn and now crocheted creations.
She lives to create.
I know how that feels.

I adore her creativity and willingness to try new things and learn as she goes

I HAVE to step back and let her learn on her own, her successes and failures.

Yesterday she whipped up a sock monkey I had started. I marvelled at her precise stitching.

Yesterday she is made clothes for her monkey. On MY sewing machine (breathe, breathe, breathe). She has her own sewing machine, but there is something exciting about using Mum's.
Her Monkey ended up with some new clothes...and then she crocheted it a bikini.

I am in awe of her creativity, passion and confidence.
Her room is scattered with origami
little toys she has designed and sewn
It was her choice for today's giveaway.
She encourages her friends to sew, craft, create and is encouraged by her friends who think like she does.

Today's giveaway is a kit to make your own doll.

Leave a comment and the giveaway will close on 31 January.

If you haven't already, enter day one, two and three!!

Giveaway Week : Day three

Last night I went to see Les Miserables.
Wow. I loved it!!!
Have you seen it?? If you haven't, make sure you do.
An incredible story, incredible cast. wow.

Today's giveaway is for those of you who love yarn (and crochet).

Late last year I started making some polymer crochet hook handles. I sent a few to friends to try out and made Miss 11 a set of rainbow hooks for Christmas

My dear friend Jennie and I exchanged some hooks for some of her beautiful Koala brooches which I gifted to my American family. LOVE these. Jennie is one gifted and talented lady!
(in my excitement of wrapping them for Christmas, gifting them and all the excitement of that I didn't take photos of all of them! sorry Jennie, but they are MUCH loved!!!)

Today's prize is a ball of 100% cotton yarn from the USA and a polymer handled crochet hook.
You can choose what hook colour you would like :)
I bought a 'little' bit of polymer clay in the USA... so there are heaps of colours to choose from
Hehe, it was soooooo cheap!! About 1/5th of the price!

Leave a comment, including the hook colour you'd like and I'll draw it with the other giveaways on 31 January.

I have a bit of post holiday blues going on today so if you can leave a comment that makes me laugh, you'll get double the entries!

Don't forget to enter the giveaways of day 1 and 2 as well!

Crochet dishcloths & Giveaway week: day 2

My name is Leonie and I have an addiction.
I am addicted to crochet (and Typo, fabric, yarn, scrapbooking supplies... amongst other things)

It took me aaaaageess to get crochet but eventually it clicked and I love it!

As a part of our Advent swap the lovely Cat gave me a fab Crochet Dish Cloth book.

I am going to attempt to make all 99 designs this year.

I started with number 40 (as you do), with some pretty cotton yarn I bought in the USA.

and then I have made number 1 (three times... I Like this pattern!)
I'm struggling with number 2 and its been pulled apart several times
And Im currently working on number 3

I have discovered I'm a bit of a loose hooker so I've had to drop my crochet hook size down to keep to gauge. But they are pretty addictive.

If you haven't used crochet or knitted dishcloths before, let me tell you, they are awesome! As well as looking pretty, they wear well and they don't get smelly.

So for a giveaway today in my 500th post giveaway week I have....
Two crochet dishclothes and some Lolly disguises (because we ALL need Lolly disguises!)

Leave a comment and if you missed yesterday's giveaway be sure to head over here and enter too.
All giveaways are open to everyone and close on 31st January.

And I'm going to link up my crochet makings over here on Thursday with Leonie.

500th Post and a week of giveaways!

Welcome to my 500th Post!!!

Do you like the new look on my blog? Trimming things down for a new year! (and I did it all by myself following Sophie's tutorial here and using the awesome PicMonkey!). I still have some tweaking to do but I like the new look :)

I started my blog in October 2009, primarily as somewhere to share my crafting. It has followed me on my journey to learn to crochet, becoming Coeliac, moving country's and house's numerous times and all the UPs and downs in between.

Looking back, my kids have grown so much in this time and we are now entering new territory... Tweens and puberty! Exciting and terrifying all at the same time.

This year I aim to spend more time crafting, visiting blog linky's (especially these ones) and connecting to other bloggers. I have a quilt to finish and crochet I want to make. I have just ordered Project Life sleeves and have got out my watercolours to start painting again. Yes, this is the year of craft here.

I have made some AMAZING friends through blogging and hope to continue to further develop those friendships and meet more bloggers this year (here! are you coming too?).

In celebration of my 500th blog post I thought it was fitting to do a week of giveaways for my lovely followers.

Do you remember this cute little fella I made here???

Well I have made one for you too!!

edited to add: I hearby call you Jimmy the Crobot

Just leave a comment and go in the draw. It doesn't matter where you live in the world, I am happy to post him off anywhere.

Be sure to come by tomorrow for another giveaway. All giveaways will be open until 31st January 2013 so send your friends over too.

Be sure to visit giveaway days two, three, four and five.

Sunday snippets

I'm joining in with Sunday Snippets this week for the first time.

Our week has been all about keeping cool in the heat. Its been up around 35C all week and only drops to about 26C at night. After 5 weeks in the US winter it's a bit of a shock!!

These run constantly

The fluffy cat is barely coping...spending her days and night lying like this (nice cobweb on my wall. just for you!)

She then rolls over and has a drink...(too hot to stand apparently)
It's been pretty smoky in the afternoons and evenings due to bush fires in the area.

Im back to eating Paleo (slipped up a bit on holiday) and it really is the BEST thing for me. So easy to follow when you know its doing so much healing.
and finally... today I got a new phone! squeal!
much anticipated, long awaited. So very spoilt.
of course it needed a case...
Make sure you come back to see me tomorrow, I have a surprise and a new look :)

Be sure to visit and join in with Elizabeth

After taking 4000 photos on our trip to the USA I haven't had the camera out much since we got home.

We are enjoying lazy days without anywhere to be
Swims in friend's pools
Cold iceblocks (and icecubes for the cat in her water bowl)
sleeping in
a little bit of crafting

It's really hot here at the moment so we have been sticking around home.

There are bush fires burning north and west of us so our afternoons are spent with all the doors and windows closed.

But it is so nice to stop and reflect on the fabulous holiday we had!

So I'll leave you with my one of my favourite holiday snaps of my kids...enjoying the Disneyland fireworks.

Photo Friday: on Thursday

I'm really excited about all the new linkies on Kiwi Mummy Blogs. You should check them out here.

Tomorrow is Photo Friday!

I thought I'd already shared this photo on my blog but I haven't (if you follow me on Instagram you would have seen it!)

Our nutty cat Tosca folded herself into my daughters lap and proceeded to clean herself. It was a fluke that I snapped her mid lick!
